The Pack of the Plain

I have observed this family of coyote a few times together in the valley of the Saint-Lawrence river during that winter.

So, it is more likely a family than a real pack. The story of the coyote in Québec is quite fascinating : they are the biggest among North America.

Some scientists found an explanation in the genetic :
Extermination of wolves populations in southern Québec let just a few lone wolves alive, which bred with the coyotes, which arrived from the Southeast.

The coyote was first an animal from the West of the continent, and started spreading all over the continent during the last century. In the same time, humans planned an extermination campaign, which completely failed.

Wised coyote : they definitely deserve our respect !

Notice the Snowy Owl in the trees. Often perched on the ground, that owl flew up in that tree when the coyotes came closer.
